Bringing the best of theatre and improv together in one exciting unscripted show!

Bringing the best of theatre and improv together in one exciting unscripted show!
We take the culture, history and passion of the 1940s-50s, and merge them into a play rich with characters full of passion and humor, and stories that will tug your heart. And, oh yes, we make it up ON THE SPOT. It's not scripted, we don't rehearse the lines, and we discover the story when you do. This is IMPROMPTU.
Impromptu is an improv troupe that specializes in creating unscripted plays set during the post-WWII era (1940s-50s). Whether it's a tribute to Tennessee Williams or William Inge, or the thrill of Passion Noir, you'll see the actors develop characters, plot, story and action - all without a script or a rehearsal! It's the first and last time you'll ever see this production!!
In the recent past, we've appeared at the Chicago Dramatic Improv Festival (and are returning this year for an encore performance!), the Ottawa Improv Festival (Canada), Atlanta Improv Festival, LA (Impro Winterfest), the Third Coast Improv Festival (Nashville TN) and the New South Comedy Festival (Greenville SC), among others. Now, as the pandemic wanes, we are starting to travel again! Scroll down for our upcoming shows!
OUR SHOWS ARE EXCITING AND EXHILARATING!
TEAM MEMBERS:: Teresa Bueno, Joe Rinaldi, Kathy Rinaldi
All the members of Impromptu bring a wealth of experience to the stage. We have all trained with the esteemed Florida Studio Theatre Improv Program, under the direction of Will Luera (internationally renowned for his improv and teaching skills). In addition, we owe our fascination for this type of improv to Impro Theatre LA - arguably one of the best unscripted play groups in the world, and our amazing coaches Lisa Fredrickson and Jo McGinley.
BRING EXCITEMENT TO YOUR NEXT EVENT!
Impromptu is available for a wide variety of events and occasions. Think of us when you're planning a "Welcome Back" to the snowbirds in your condo association, or as entertainment for your next gathering. Our shows range from 30-60 minutes, and we will use your audience suggestions as a leaping-off point for an afternoon or evening of fun!

Hailing from the north Georgia mountains, Teresa brings a healthy dose of Southern sassiness to any party. Her childhood years were spent improvising make-believe worlds with her brother and sole playmate. Forced by time and nature to grow up and abandon their worlds of pretending, Teresa’s family moved to Atlanta where she studied drama in high school and later standup comedy with Jerry Farber. Once she attended her first improv show she knew she had entered a portal to the make-believe world that she had lived and loved as a child. After pursuing a ten-year adventure in Costa Rica, Teresa returned to the US and settled in Sarasota where she follows her passion for studying and performing dramatic improv.

A professional actor and member of AEA and SAG/AFTRA, Joe has performed regionally with Shakespeare and Company, the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, the Midwest Radio Theatre (among others), and was artistic director of Firedrake Productions in New York City for close to a decade. More recently, he has discovered the joy of dramatic improv, and delights in focusing on an era that saw the dawn of major American playwrights (e.g., Tennessee Williams, William Inge, Clifford Odets, William Saroyan, and Arthur Miller). A seasoned communications expert, he sees improv as a wonderful way to share stories with a broader public.

For Kathy, it seems as if storytelling has been in her genes since she was young. Even at the ripe old age of five, she was making up complicated birthday cards with details on her family's life. In her 20s, she discovered a love for theatre and spent the next couple of decades writing, producing, and working backstage in both regional and professional theatre. Training with David and Teresa Sears, Edward Albee, Joe Kertes, and many others reinforced her passion for playwriting, and she has been produced in both Toronto and New York. Meanwhile, she continued to pay the rent with her career as a communications expert for the nonprofit industry. Kathy is thrilled to now combine her love of theatre with the exciting world of dramatic improv.

"I have been performing, directing, and producing improv theatre for 27 years, so it's seldom that a show fully surprises me. I usually can "see the strings". With Impromptu, I watched two performances at The Dramatic Improv Festival [Chicago] and I barely saw a single "string". It was smooth, heartfelt, and beautifully executed. I sincerely hope they'll join us again next year !"
"Such a highlight!" (after the premiere of Passion Noir)
"Wow! Everyone was really impressed with Impromptu’s performance last night! I am really excited for your traveling performances and I feel sure you all will blow them away. [We] were particularly interested that your group has focused on the post-war period – it’s before we were really old enough to be paying attention to social nuances, but we recognize what influenced our parents."
"I was completely sucked in after one minute -- all the way through to
looking for crayons. Unscripted drama...
that is really an art like no other. You three were very believable siblings -- typical in that you'd go in and out of self-concern to the deep rooted sibling relationship loyalty then back to self-concern and survival."
Simply put, improvisers go on stage and make up everything they say and do as they go along. The performance is intended to appear as if it had been planned. In fact, that's the excitement of improv. The actors onstage and the audience are surprised by what's happening AT THE SAME TIME!
That’s it.
Usually, the improvisers will introduce themselves, then ask for a suggestion from the audience (e.g., an object, a location, etc.) The improvisers will then begin their performance. Sometimes this is an unscripted play - such as Impromptu - and sometimes it's a series of games (e.g., "Whose Line is it Anyway?"). It can be funny, poignant, dramatic or exciting (or all of the above).
Each improv show is a unique, temporary art form that can only be experienced by the audience--and the improvisers--during the moments it is being created.
Like a fireworks display, it is there for a brief few moments then it is gone.
Since our performances are provided for entertainment (i.e., office parties, weddings, in-home parties, restaurants, bars) and/or fundraisers, we can perform anywhere there is a stage or an open floor. Seating for guests is preferred.
Shows vary depending on the venue and your needs. We can do a 30-minute set or a 90-minute performance. All performances are made to order in both content and duration.
Our shows are customized for each situation. Pricing depends on the length and complexity of the performance (call us for rates) For a free, creative conversation to find out more about our customized performances, please see below.
